Historical reference

Pechenizhchyna is situated at the boarder of the two great historical, cultural and native zones - forest-steppe and steppe. The place-names of our region are manifestation of the co-influence of settled population of forest-steppe and of nomadic environment of steppe. Pechenigy, Noviy Burluk - these are the titles connected with Turkic peoples, which lived here in different times. The name of the famous commander of the Cossack camp Ivan Sirko who in 1665-1668 was at the head of Pechenigy Cossacks is connected with Pechenigy. At the beginning of the XVIII century the Ukrainian errant philosopher G. S. Skovoroda taught children of the local landlord in Noviy Burluk village. In the 30-40's of the XIX century the famous authors O. Afanasyev-Chuzhbyns'ky, Yakov de Belman, friend of T. G. Shevtchenko who he dedicated his famous poem "Dream" to, served at the royal regiment in Pechenigy. The world known painter G. I. Seven Soviet Union Heroes, who were awarded for their deeds during the Great Patriotic War, were born in the Pechenigy region. The name of Petr Vasilenko - the writer, poet, and author of the numerous works dedicated to the history of Pechenigy and Slobozhans'ky regions is widely known. The river of Sivers'ky Donets' is mentioned by the ancient Greek philosopher Gerodoth as a boundary between Scythians, who lived in Europe, and Sarmatians, who lived in Asia. And the Pecheniz'ke storage pond became the hand-made adornment of this land. The unique nature-guarding area and the place of rest on the territory of the region is the regional landscape park "Pecheniz'ke Pole" which is situated at the far south of the Left-Bank Forest Steppe and boarders on the steppe zone. Its total area constitutes about 4,5 thousands hectares, there the botanicals have discovered about 500 species of plants, most of them are registered in the Red Book of Ukraine. The archeological materials witness about the colonization of the region by primitives from the beginning of the IV B. C. The numerous burial mounds, sites and settlements of the ancient people are now studied by archeologists. In 2006 Pechenigy - the beautiful pearl of Slobids'ka Ukraine - will celebrate its 360th birthday.
